Leadership Opportunities

The College of New Rochelle believes in the importance of inspiring, motivating, and empowering students to achieve their leadership potential! Student leadership at CNR provides students with the opportunity to develop and strengthen communication, interpersonal and technological skills, discover new talents, and delve into their interests. Assisting students in realizing their leadership capabilities encourages them to become more involved in campus life and gives them the tools needed to be successful in their careers upon graduation.

All student leaders are prepared for their positions through our Leadership Education and Empowerment Program (LEEP).

There are many leadership opportunities at The College of New Rochelle:

  • Resident Assistant (RA) and Student Orientation Staff Leader (SOS Leader): Applications for these positions will be accepted during the Spring semester.
  • Peer Ministry
  • Student Government Association (SGA)
  • Athletics (Team Captain or Co-Captain)
  • The College Senate
  • The Board of Trustees Institutional Committees
In addition, there are numerous leadership opportunities within the academic and administrative areas of the College.

Student Government

The Student Government Association is the principal vehicle of student governance and student event programming for the School of Arts & Sciences and the School of Nursing. It serves as a liaison between the student body and the administration of The College of New Rochelle, promoting the highest standards of academic excellence and quality of life for all students enrolled in those schools.

The SGA oversees a number of student clubs and organizations that meet a variety of student interests. They include performing arts, culture and politics, student publications, science, and service organizations. In addition, each undergraduate class of the School of Arts & Sciences and School of Nursing has an executive board responsible for planning and implementing traditional class events.

The executive board for each class can be reached at freshmanclass@cnr.edu, sophomoreclass@cnr.edu, juniorclass@cnr.edu, and seniorclass@cnr.edu.

Furthermore, SAS and undergraduate SN students also serve as Senators, representing students in their respective schools, on the College Senate. The College Senate is the principal vehicle of participatory College governance under the President and the Board of Trustees.

The SGA has hosted leadership speakers, "Brain Breaks" for students before final exams, and family-oriented activities during Family Weekend. The SGA has also sponsored trips to Medieval Times in New Jersey, a Maya Angelou speaking engagement at Pace University, environmental education events at the Museum of Natural History in NYC, and a host of other fun and educational activities!

The SGA is always open to new programming ideas and welcomes students to contact them with their suggestions. The SGA can be reached at sga@cnr.edu.
