Childhood/Early Childhood Education Certificate

Student reading a book to young children.Students working toward a certification in Childhood Education may qualify for a second certification in Early Childhood Education (Birth-Grade 2).

Students must complete all requirements for the childhood education certification as well as specific additional course and field work requirements for the second certification.

Some required courses for second certifications are offered by the Graduate School. Undergraduates may enroll for these classes as long as they meet the following requirements: a 3.0 GPA in all undergraduate Education Department course work, a recommendation of the Chair of the Education Department, and the successful completion of the Graduate School writing sample.

Additional requirements for Early Childhood Certification

  • EDU 372Z - Fieldwork: Early Childhood Education 1 - 3 cr.
  • EDU 491Z - Practicum in Early Childhood Education 3 cr.
  • LIT 601 - Early Language and Literacy Instruction 3 cr.
