Hundreds gathered in the Wellness Center on Sunday, April 28, as the College hosted its final Strawberry Festival, ending a 47-year run for the event held each spring to celebrate the coming of summer.

The fun-filled event featured a variety of activities, music, and entertainment for children and adults alike, including face painting, games, and a vendors fair. In addition to the music provided by Fourth Generation DJ, guests were treated to performances by the CNR Sigma Iota Alpha Sorority, Inc. National Stroll Team, the Prestige Step Team from New Rochelle High School, and Hwa-Rang Taekwondo of White Plains.

This year’s festival was particularly bittersweet for many of the alumni who returned to CNR for the event to renew friendships with classmates. The meditation room was packed throughout the afternoon as alumni reminisced about their experiences as students and paid tribute to their beloved alma mater.

“Coming to Straw fest was amazing this year. I was taken back to my days at CNR when I felt such a sense of community, friendship, and faith. It was so great to see so many of my classmates and remember what made CNR special,” said Renee Blackwell SAS’95.

The Strawberry Festival, introduced to CNR in 1972, was the single largest event organized with the help of the College’s undergraduates. The concept of the Strawberry Festival originated in the mid-west during the 1890’s as an American festival celebrating the ripening of strawberries, the blooming of lilacs, and the coming of summer.
