The College of New Rochelle to Host Final Strawberry Festival

The College of New Rochelle’s (CNR) will host its final Strawberry Festival on Sunday, April 28, 2019, ending a 47-year tradition that began at CNR in 1972. The single largest event organized with the help of CNR undergraduates, the concept of the Strawberry Festival originated in the mid-west during the 1890’s as an American festival celebrating the ripening of strawberries, the blooming of lilacs, and the coming of summer.

The Challenge of "Eating Local" in the Global Food System

The challenges of eating local food in our global food economy were highlighted by Dr. Roxanne Zimmer, CNR associate professor of communication arts, when she spoke to students, alumni and community members gathered in Romita Auditorium at The College of New Rochelle on March 7. The global economy, that refers to the human and ecological cost of the food we eat, has been drastically changing since the 1950s.
