Dr. Marcelle Mentor
Dr. Marcelle Mentor, a South African native, joined The College of New Rochelle faculty as an assistant professor of education in 2017. She is a former high school English Teacher and has done extensive professional development in the NYC schools through the Center for Professional Education for Teachers (CPET) at Teachers College, Columbia University.
Her academic interest focuses on Critical Race Theory, with an emphasis on Womanist Theory and Black Masculinity Theory. Her teaching philosophy is based on the concept of Ubuntu, which is a Southern African ethic or humanistic approach that focuses on the fact that we are people through the existence and interaction with and from other people. We cannot be everything we are meant to be without the help of others.
